This year's Ruka Nordic started for the ski jumpers with a team competition on Saturday afternoon. Jernej Damjan, for whom this was the first start in the World Cup this season, and Anze Semenic were the best Red Eagles in seventh with Slovenia. Alex Insam and Sebastian Colloredo finished ninth with Italy and failed to qualify for the final round of the Top 8 teams.
Jernej Damjan provided a sensational result for our team in Sunday's individual competition. The 34-year-old took his second win in the World Cup, the first since January 2014. Stephan Leyhe also showed a convincing performance and finished ninth. Anze Semenic came in 17th, Stefan Hula 21st, Halvor Egner Granerud 22nd, and Clemens Aigner 27.
Nordic Combined - World Cup Ruka (FIN)
What a way to start the season for Jan Schmid. The Norwegian finished second in this winter's first Nordic Combined event on Friday. Bryan Fletcher and Antoine Gerard were 17th and 23rd and could also score some World Cup points.
Jan Schmid showed yet another great performance on Saturday and finished fourth. He missed his second podium finish of the weekend only by less than two seconds. Antoine Gerard, who showed the longest jump in the competition, came in on a career best fifth place Saturday afternoon. Bryan Fletcher, 31st after the jumping, moved up to 18th overall with the 4th best time in the race.
Antoine Gerard was our best in the weekend's final competition on Sunday. The Frenchman repeated his fifth place from the day before. Jan Schmid finished 18th and Bryan Fletcher 29th.
